On Sunday, February 27th, Graham Muir will begin a thousand-mile journey on the Iditarod Trail. The ITI follows the historic trail from its trailhead at Knik Lake near Anchorage to the remote interior village of McGrath, continuing to the Bering Sea before reaching the trail's conclusion in Nome.
His goal is to raise $10 for every mile of the #ITI1000 to support the American Red Cross of Colorado.
On December 30, 2021, the Marshall Fire ripped through suburban neighborhoods on the west side of the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area. Spread by high winds and fueled by dry conditions, the wildfire left two people presumed dead, burned more than 6,000 acres, and destroyed more than 1,000 homes, according to news reports. This tragic event has impacted us all in Northern Colorado. Even in our small community, we all know someone who has been directly affected.
Colorado Wildfires: Red Cross Supporting Victims
More than 100 American Red Cross disaster volunteers continue to support victims of late December’s Marshall Fire, Colorado’s most destructive wildfire in history.
RED CROSS RESPONSE The Red Cross has distributed hundreds of relief items and provided more than 1,500 individual care contacts to help people with medical or disability needs, as well as emotional and spiritual support. The Red Cross is working very closely with the entire response community — government agencies, community groups and others — to coordinate emergency relief and recovery efforts.
The Red Cross has also provided financial assistance to almost 1,600 people impacted by the fire. This financial support is intended to be a bridge to cover emergency needs until survivors can access other resources, such as insurance, community services or other forms of federal disaster assistance.
